Ange Postecoglou shuts down Tom Rogic fears as Celtic boss pleads 'leave him alone'

Ange Postecoglou has insisted he has no concerns over Tom Rogic and knows the former Celtic star is fine.

The midfielder, who left the champions in the summer, sparked headlines back home by pulling out of the Australian squad’s World Cup qualifier with Peru and then refused to take calls from national coach Graham Arnold. It led to concerns from the Socceroos about Rogic’s well-being although the free agent has since been photographed back in Sydney.

Postecoglou hasn’t been in contact with the 29-year-old since he left Celtic but people around him have assured him there are no issues. The Celtic manager said: “I think Tom’s fine mate. Has anyone spoken to Tom? No one spoke to him when he was here for 10 years either, that’s Tom!

“I’d be more concerned if he was out there talking to people. Leave him alone, he’s fine. He’ll get his next move done and I’m sure he’s in a great place. As far as I know, and I haven’t been in contact with him, but the people I know say that he’s got no problems.”

Rogic left Celtic after nine years at Celtic at the end of last season. He is still looking for a new club but a move back to the A-League appears to have been ruled out. Celtic are looking into possible plans for a trip to Japan next summer. Postecoglou had a spell there at Yokohama F. Marinos and Celtic now have a strong Japanese contingent with Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

The Celtic knows it could be massive for Celtic although he insisted he has more pressing concerns. Celtic have already agreed to a winter break tour of Australia, before the World Cup.

He admitted: “It’s kind of followed me around hasn’t it? Australia, Japan, Greece will be next! That’s not something that’s on my radar at all. I haven’t had any discussions and I wouldn’t be aware of any discussions.

“Our planning at this stage is for what we’re going to do in November because it’s important for us. Next pre-season, we haven’t discussed it yet.”
