Ange Postecoglou reveals Tottenham transfer stance in Fraser Forster plan

Ange Postecoglou has revealed Tottenham have no plans to sign a goalkeeper next month unless Fraser Forster gets injured.

Forster, 36, has started in Spurs’s last seven games after first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario suffered an ankle injury against Manchester City which will rule him out well into the new year.

Ex-England international Forster has produced some exceptional saves in that time but made two blunders on Thursday night as he gave up two poor goals to Manchester United. Fortunately for the veteran, Spurs progressed to the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a 4-3 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Clearing up any uncertainty over Tottenham’s January transfer plans in goal, Postecoglou said: “If we had another injury to a goalkeeper, then we would definitely have to sign someone.

“But I didn't leave the door open [to a signing] in terms of [the situation as it is currently]. Frase has done really well for us coming in. It's not easy. Any time a No2 goalkeeper comes in, it's always [difficult].

“He was disappointed with last night, but we’ve got to keep that in context of his overall performances. Burchy [Rob Burch, Spurs goalkeeper coach] will work with him. We've got no choice but to saddle up again on Sunday and go again.”

On Sunday, Spurs host Premier League leaders Liverpool in their final match before Christmas.
