Ange Postecoglou in veiled Jota Celtic transfer update as he insists 'no timelines' put on deals

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou insists he won't rush through any transfers this summer with the Parkhead boss determined to land the right player.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Benjamin Siegrist have both committed their futures to the club this summer, with Alexandro Bernabei and Jota expected to follow through the door at Celtic Park. More could follow through the door with the Scottish Premiership champions looking to bolster their ranks ahead of their return to the Champions League group stage.

However, some fans have been left concerned that Jota has not reported for pre-season despite an agreement being in place with Benfica for the winger has been reached in a deal worth £6.4million. Instead, the 23-year-old was snapped at a music festival in Portugal as the Celtic team were put through their paces at Lennoxtown.

But Postecoglou insists there is still plenty of time to get deals over the line this summer, with his team not playing a competitive game until the league kicks off at the end of July.

Though he confessed he would like to have the majority of the squad with him throughout pre-season, with the first game taking place in Austria against SC Wiener Viktoria on July 6.

Postecoglou told Celtic TV: "Last year I was really keen to get people in the building. We kind of knew we would have a few leaving as well, so it was a really hectic time.

"In the January window we worked a bit more methodically. We kind of knew what we wanted and we got it in early.

"It's the same this time. I'm not one to rush things. The most important thing is to get the right players in, that is the key for me.

'It's not just about them as players, it's about them as people. So for that to happen we can't put timelines on things.

"The earlier we get players in the better, but as everyone knows we have a unique scenario this year when we have got a clean pre-season without any competitive games. It's a great advantage for us.

"For me, apart from strengthening the squad, just being able to work with the players we had last year in pre-season will be invaluable.

"Most of them either missed pre-season or we threw them in halfway through a season. Even working with the existing squad will be invaluable."
