Ange Postecoglou in strong Celtic future message as he issues Kyogo injury update

Ange Postecoglou has issued a strong message on his Celtic future as he dismissed speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League with Leeds United.

Reports have suggested that the Aussie manager is on a shortlist of possible replacements for Jesse Marsch at Elland Road after the American was sacked earlier in the week.

Postecoglou is currently priced at 9/1 with the bookies for a move south of the border, but the 57-year-old insists he is fully focused on the job in hand at Parkhead.

He explained: “I don't think the fans need a message from me. What the fans need is me to keep making sure that our football club represents them the right way.

“That's my responsibility. If you've got a player in this position where he's getting a lot of attention the first thing you're going to say to him is 'just keep playing well, don't worry about anything else'.

“I'm old enough now to know that the game changes very quickly. I'm pretty blessed to be in the position I am. I'm working for a special football club and I'm never going to lose sight of that. My main responsibility is to make sure that I prepare the team well for a game.”

Postecoglou was speaking after Celtic’s dominant 5-1 victory over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup, which was only tainted by an injury to star striker Kyogo Furuhashi.

The Japanese international was forced off just 14 minutes into the game and could now be a doubt for the League Cup final against Rangers on February 26.

On his attacker, Postecoglou added: “It is his shoulder. It is something he had I think last year. He picked up a similar one.

“We will just wait and see. He will get a scan, but he is a pretty quick healer.

“I know what he is like. He will probably want to train on Monday. We need to wait and see how the scan goes.

“There is obviously an issue there but we just need to see how it goes.

“Kyogo’s nature he will be pushing to make himself available for next week. We just have to be sensible, there is a lot of football to be played between now and then.

“We will be guided by the best information we have.”
