Ange Postecoglou in Leeds United link nine word response as Celtic boss insists 'focus' on Parkhead

Ange Postecoglou says being linked to Leeds United would be a compliment if he took any notice of the specualtion.

The Celtic boss has been touted in some quarters for the vacant Elland Road role after Jesse Marsch was given his marching orders last week but Postecoglou insists his full focus remains on the task at hand at Parkhead. The Hoops are looking healthy in their pursuit of retaining the Scottish Premiership with their nine-point advantage and have a Viaplay Cup final with Rangers to contend with.

The Australian was relieved of media duties this week as assistant coach John Kennedy stepped in but was quizzed pre-St Mirren as the home side looked to progress in the Scottish Cup against the only side to inflict a domestic defeat on Postecoglou's men.

And the Aussie delivered a stern response when asked about links touting him for a new job. Asked if the Leeds link was a compliment, he told BBC Sportsound: "It is if I take any notice of it."

He added: "We've had a good week of training despite it being unusual due to no midweek games. It's been really good, positive week on the training field with the guys. We're performing well and are ready to go. That's where the focus has been.

"I don't know how you feel about anything [when asked about job loyalty]. As I said I'm focused on doing the job well here and making sure I uphold the responsibilities I have within the football club. To keep trying to produce teams to bring success and smiles to supporters' faces."
