Ange Postecoglou in Celtic 'well off it' verdict as he reacts to Sydney Super Cup defeat

Celtic boss Ange Postecogolou admitted his side were 'well off it' as his homecoming ended in defeat to Sydney FC.

Kyogo Furuhashi fired the Hoops into the lead after the visitors twice survived woodwork scares at the other end. However, the A-League side quickly responded with Robert Mak outpacing Stephen Welsh before firing past Benjamin Siegrest. Max Burgess then superbly found the top corner in the second period to complete a comeback win for the hosts.

The game was end to end with Postecoglou admitting Sydney deserved their victory as he hailed the 'brilliant' support at the Allianz Stadium. Attentions now turn to Everton on Sunday in their second game of the Sydney Super Cup.

Reacting to the defeat, the Celtic boss said: “It was an entertaining game with plenty of goalmouth action for both teams, but we were well off it today, and to Sydney’s credit, especially in the first-half, they had the better chances and deserved to win.

“The support was brilliant as always, whether it’s back home or around the world, our supporters are passionate about the football club and they always make a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, we couldn’t reward them tonight but hopefully on Sunday.

“We’ll just recover from tonight and have a session on Saturday and prepare as we always do, and try to make sure we’ve got a good mindset, the mindset that we need to be successful.”
