ANGE POSTECOGLOU has moved to ease concerns over former Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic after Australia head coach Graham Arnold expressed his fears over the 29-year-old’s welfare.
Rogic pulled out of the Australian squad for the recent World Cup play-off matches citing personal reasons, and Arnold said he was worried after attempts to contact Rogic had gone unanswered. The player is currently a free agent after leaving Celtic in the summer, and has since been pictured working on his fitness in Sydney.
While Postecoglou hasn’t been in contact personally with Rogic, the Celtic manager has been assured that he is ok.
“I think Tom’s fine mate,” Postecoglou said.
“Has anyone spoken to Tom? No one spoke to him when he was here for 10 years either, that’s Tom!
“I’d be more concerned if he was out there talking to people. Leave him alone, he’s fine. He’ll get his next move done and I’m sure he’s in a great place.
“As far as I know, and I haven’t been in contact with him, but the people I know say that he’s got no problems.”
Meanwhile, Postecoglou says he is unaware of Celtic’s apparent plans to tour Japan next pre-season, with reports suggesting they will look to cash in on the manager’s popularity in the country as well as that of their four Japanese players, Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.
“It’s kind of followed me around hasn’t it?” he said. “Australia, Japan, Greece will be next!
“That’s not something that’s on my radar at all. I haven’t had any discussions and I wouldn’t be aware of any discussions.
“Our planning at this stage is for what we’re going to do in November because it’s important for us.
“Next pre-season, we haven’t discussed yet.”
