Ange Postecoglou delivers Tottenham injury update after James Maddison and Brennan Johnson scares

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has cooled fears that James Maddison picked up an injury during Sunday’s north London derby against Arsenal, though Brennan Johnson will be assessed.

Maddison went down during the second half of Sunday’s entertaining 2-2 Premier League draw at the Emirates Stadium after appearing to hyper-extend his knee.

The England midfielder was initially able to continue, but he was later replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with 12 minutes of Sunday’s derby remaining.

Postecoglou has now revealed that Maddison and captain Heung-min Son both had fitness issues going into the game, but is hopeful they will be fine.

Winger Johnson, who made his first start for Tottenham on Sunday since a summer move from Nottingham Forest, needs to be assessed though after injuring his hamstring against Arsenal.

“Obviously it seems like he [Johnson] felt something. I think hamstring, so we will assess that,” said Postecoglou.

“Madders and Sonny went into it and they weren’t 100 per cent going into the game, but they got through it - which suggests to me that it is nothing serious.”
