He's not delivered on his promise as yet - but the appointment of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could see Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy deliver on a two-year aim to deliver for his club's fans.
The high-octane style of football the Australian manager provides has entertained Parkhead supporters for two years but now punters fear he could leave for London after Saturday's Scottish Cup final with Inverness CT. Bowing out with a Treble and five trophies from six would be largely down to the attacking brand Postecoglou deploys, and it's what Levy has been after since 2021.
Since sacking Mauricio Pochettino in 2019, Tottenham have opted for Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte in the dugout. Espirito Santo lasted merely a matter of months but Conte and Mourinho arrived as elite bosses, with defensive mindsets. Levy wrote in his 2021 end of season message it was key Spurs got an attacking boss who bought into their 'DNA', and Celtic leader Postecoglou fits the bill he has been after.
He wrote: "We shall focus on the recruitment of a new head coach. We are acutely aware of the need to select someone whose values reflect those of our great club and return to playing football with the style for which we are known.
"Free-flowing, attacking and entertaining. Whilst continuing to embrace our desire to see young players flourish from our academy alongside experienced talent. As a club we have been so focused on delivering the stadium and dealing with the impact of the pandemic, that I feel we lost sight of some key priorities and what’s truly in our DNA. Our work in the community and with the NHS is an example of when we get it right, but we don’t get everything right."
