Ange Postecoglou admits it's 'pretty special' taking Celtic home as he aims to put on show for fans

Ange Postecoglou admits it is 'pretty special' taking Celtic back to his homeland as he aims to put on a show for the supporters coming out to the Sydney Super Cup.

The Hoops boss is back in Australia as the Scottish champions continue preparations for the second half of the season with games against Sydney FC and Everton. The supporters at the other side of the world regularly get up at two or three in the morning to support the team from afar but now they will get the chance to watch them up close and personal.

The 57-year-old - who has Celtic sitting nine points clear of Rangers in the Premiership heading into the World Cup break - knows the importance of the game in his homeland and takes great pride in bringing his troops Down Under. Speaking to the Celtic website, he said: "Our performances have been really good, particularly in the league and we just want to continue that in these two games – Sydney FC are a good side in local competition and then obviously, Everton.

“So we’ve got to put on good performances, for ourselves as we want to keep progressing, but also we know we are going to have good turnouts and people will be looking forward to seeing us live, and we want to make sure we give a good account of ourselves.”

He continued: “We know that their experience as a Celtic fan is getting up at two or three in the morning.

“So I’m sure every supporter, and not just Celtic fans, I think just sports fans in general have been following us particularly since I’ve been there, and I think that for everyone that comes to the game, it will be a great experience for them.

‘Our job is to play our football and hopefully give them something to get excited about.’

“It’s pretty special, I mean growing up here and living here I always looked forward to teams from overseas coming and if I wasn’t managing tomorrow night I’d be here watching the game.

“So I know it’s really important and it’s a great pride for me to bring one of the biggest football clubs in the world back to my homeland.

“I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. I think the game will be good and I think just that feeling of knowing all these people who follow us from afar can actually see us live will be great.”
