Ange fails to thrill Tottenham inside man as Celtic boss not 'hitting the right notes' over SPFL bad rep

A leading Tottenham insider believes the pursuit of Ange Postecoglou isn't a thrilling one as the search for Spurs' next boss goes on.

Alasdair Gold spoke to his 55,000 subscribers to break down the ongoing hunt for a permanent successor. He admits a colleague has waxed lyrical about Angeball and what the Celtic boss could potentially bring to north London. However, Gold remains unconvinced the man – who stands on the brink of five trophies out of six during his Parkhead tenure – is the right Tottenham option to reignite a side who endured a season to forget as their 15-year silverware drought continued.

Postecoglou is the favourite with the bookies and the man himself has remained coy over escalating links with the vacancy as he aims to deliver the Treble when Celtic take on Inverness in the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday at Hampden. Speaking on YouTube, the Football London writer said: "I know he's 57 so there's a lot of experience there. I just personally wonder if his next step will be a team lower down the Premier League. I know Spurs are lower down the Premier League to which they have been which is very sad. But I maybe just feel, for him, he maybe needs another step in between.

"You are quite right to say it's hypocritical and (Arne) Slot, maybe, Eredivisie, Scottish Premiership, I don't know where people see them in terms of levels. For me, what I would say about what Slot has done at Feyenoord, although previously a big power in Dutch football, I think they have only won the Eredivisie twice this century. He (Slot) awakened a sleeping giant. No disrespect to Postecoglou, but Celtic and Rangers are the two you are going to look as your title winners.

"I don't want to do it down too much, I'm told the football is great, my only argument against that would be is how much defending do you have to do in the Scottish league? For, some reason, it doesn't quite hit the right notes for me. If he ends up becoming Spurs manager I will absolutely look at it with a fresh slate. For me, he's not one that really thrills me."
