Liverpool FC celebrated a significant milestone in the redevelopment of Anfield last month with new pictures showing further progress being made on the project.
In July, two 600 tonne cranes lifted the roof truss of the new Anfield Road stand into place and was done so under challenging conditions. The delicate manoeuvre was carried out on one of Merseyside’s hottest days on record and marked a major milestone in the £80m development which began in September 2021.
The progress means the development is now nearing its half way point with expectation for completion in summer 2023. Current projections are that the new stand will be ready to welcome fans for the start of the 2023/4 season.

New photos show additional steel works being installed around the skeleton of the structure, stretching from the back of the truss to the front of where the new roof will stand. Work will continue on the development throughout the season as Liverpool return to play its first home fixture of the season on Monday 15 August.
Speaking to the ECHO in July, Paul Cuttill, VP of Stadium Operations at Liverpool FC, said the next key milestone of the build will be removing the roof on the current Anfield Road stand. These works are being carried out on a precise timeline with the club hoping to remove the roof when the Premier League breaks for the World Cup in November and December.
The completed stand will see Anfield’s capacity increase by 7,000 and be capable of housing 61,000 supporters. Once complete it will make Anfield the fourth largest football stadium in the country.
The redevelopment of the Anfield Road stand marks the second time current Liverpool FC owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have redeveloped the historic stadium. In 2016, the redevelopment of the Main Stand was completed which took the stadium’s capacity from 45,000 to 54,000.
