Anfield Road expansion reaches new landmark after huge change to Liverpool stadium

Liverpool's stadium continues its transformation with the latest development at the Anfield Road end now achieved - the removal of the old roof.

The adaptations to the Anfield Road Stand will result in the Reds boasting the fifth-largest football stadium in England - and the fourth-highest capacity in the Premier League. Over the summer, the change will bring an extra 7,000 seats to increase the venue to 61,000.

Previous work was carried out in 2016, adding 8,500 to the Main Stand and boosting Anfield to its current capacity of just under 55,000 which now can be seen across the Liverpool skyline. The demand for tickets is always high and ahead of the 2023/24 season, Liverpool will play in front of their biggest home crowd for over 70 years when the top-flight season commences in August.

Footage shared on YouTube, via KC Imageworks, shows two 500-tonne cranes in action as the remaining half of the Anfield Road End roof is removed. The lower tier will remain untouched, with the increased capacity added in the upper section of the stand.

The iconic Anfield stadium looks unrecognisable from the one that played host to Aston Villa in the Premier League. Machinery covers the turf as workers prepare the site for a bumper crowd next term.

The Premier League curtain-raiser is set to take place be away from Anfield after the Reds requested to be pitted away from Merseyside to commence the new season.

This will mean everything will be able to be in order for their first home game as they cut the ribbon on their latest change.

The club have also released a 3D map of the new-look Anfield - allowing fans to see the view from any seat in the ground. That includes in the new Anfield Road stand, with views much improved after the construction work is finished.
