Andy Walker has put Scottish football's post split fixture rage at the door of what he thinks are the Premiership's broken mechanics.
Sky Sports and the SPFL prompted fury from punters on Tuesday when their fixture announcement for the final five top and bottom six matches had multiple teams playing away from home at the same opponent three times. Ange Postecoglou meanwhile is disappointed that Celtic are playing their first two games away from Parkhead, and there will be no crucial matches in the race to beat relegation broadcast by Sky, who are not using their full quota of matches.
Walker is a co-commentator for the TV heavyweights and insists the rules around only being able to broadcast a maximum of four home Premiership matches under the current deal's regulations throw up impossible situations that have left Aberdeen, St Mirren and Rangers furious. When asked for his thoughts on the criticism, Walker responded on Go Radio: "I don't think you should complain when you buy into a flawed system. I know that Aberdeen are upset at going to Celtic three times, I know Rangers are upset going to Hibs three times, St Mirren going to Aberdeen three teams, you cannot satisfy everyone in the league.
"And this is what the clubs wanted, they only want to go to every ground a maximum of four times. It is impossible and is the same every year, it is impossible to satisfy everyone."
The conversation moved on a bigger league and whether that could be a possibility. Walker responded: "I have always thought the likes of Dunfermline, Partick Thistle, Falkirk could be bigger clubs, Dundee of course.
"It is always great to do a Dundee derby. But the current top flight clubs are in complete control and vote for pretty much everything and I don't think we are getting anywhere near clubs deciding on a bigger league."
