Andy Robertson is the Premier League's all-time assist maker for a defender after setting Mohamed Salah up to score Liverpool's opener against Aston Villa.
The Reds were in Premier League action against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. It’s their first top-flight encounter since the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar.
Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool at Villa Park. The Egyptian latched on to a cross from Robertson to put Jurgen Klopp’s side in front.

Later on in the half Virgil van Dijk put Liverpool 2-0 up thanks to a volley during a corner routine. But it was the opening goal that has led to the record being broken.
Robertson’s pass to Salah saw him get his 54th assist in the Premier League. That sees him with the most of any defender since the reformation of the English top flight in 1992/93.
The Scotland international has now overtaken former Everton defender Leighton Baines to take top spot. Baines had amassed 53 assists in the Premier League across his career.
Salah himself also achieved a record with his goal against Villa. The strike was his 172nd in a Liverpool shirt, the same number as club legend Sir Kenny Dalglish.
