Andy Robertson makes blunt away form admission and shares plan for Liverpool talks

Andy Robertson says Liverpool have "massively" let themselves down away from home this season as he called for a re-evaluation of the team's direction this summer.

The Reds have suffered eight of their nine Premier League defeats away from Anfield and were held to a goalless draw at struggling Chelsea on Tuesday night to leave them seven points adrift of the top four places.

And Robertson feels that while a point at Stamford Bridge should not be viewed as a poor result, he accepts the majority of the Liverpool's problems this term have stemmed from disappointing performances on the road.

"When you look over a season, a point at Stamford Bridge isn’t the one that will define our season," the left-back said. "Usually a draw here isn’t a bad result - it’s always a tough place to come and that was going to be no different tonight, but there’s been other games when we’ve dropped points when we shouldn’t have and not taken our chances and things like that.

"We’ve struggled away from home, obviously. If we could put our finger on it, we’d have fixed it before now and it’s just about trying to give our best performance every week and that’s always not been possible this season.

"Away from home, results haven’t been great. From now till the end of the season, we need to try and put that right and next season, we’re going to need to fix that if we want to be competing for anything because you need to pick up points on the road - and that’s where we’ve let ourselves down massively this year.

"We had to show a reaction and try and put Saturday (at Manchester City) to one side. We had to come here and be a lot more defensively secure and I think we did that by keeping a clean sheet and limiting their chances. It was a game with two teams lacking in confidence and I think you could see that. That’s why it probably finished 0-0."

The Reds entertain league leaders Arsenal on Sunday afternoon and Robertson says he and his team-mates will muster a response in their first game at Anfield since the stunning 7-0 win over Manchester United last month.

The Scotland captain, however, believes some frank analysis into the reasons behind the slump will take place at the AXA Centre at the end of the campaign, wherever the club finish in the Premier League.

Robertson added: "Every game you play for this club is big but obviously it’s better when you’re challenging for trophies and trying to win cups. But every game is important. Wherever we’ve gone, our away ends are full and they’ve followed us all season and we’ll keep fighting until the end.

"Whether it’s enough or not (to get top four), time will tell and if we do that and get as many points as we can with 10 games left, let’s see where we finish. Then we can re-evaluate in the summer and look at what we have to do differently but we’ll keep fighting.

"Today was tough. Both teams needed a win to be honest and now we need to look to Sunday. We’re playing against a confident, high-flying team that’s top of the league and have dreams of their own but we know that at our best, we’re a match for any team so let’s see how it goes."
