Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that five players are in a fitness race ahead of their fixture with Rangers.
The Reds swept Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side 2-0 at Anfield midweek and the pair collide again at Ibrox next week in Champions League Group A. Andy Robertson, Arthur Melo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones are all injured but some are working towards their returns to full fitness, with the next Premier League game to come against Arsenal before heading to Rangers.
Klopp says that Scotland captain Robertson is back on the grass running while a couple others aren't quite there yet in terms of their progress. The German manager said: "Robbo is running a lot, looks like he's close. Curtis Jones was in training yesterday, it looked good – but that's now the first session. He's then probably the closest. They're in a good way, they do big sessions.
"But Naby and Ox [are] still a little bit away. In the last session before the Rangers game, in a normal situation he just injured a muscle.
"We have to wait for further assessment to know exactly how long it will be but he's out."
There's injury problems at Ibrox too, with summer signings Tom Lawrence and John Souttar out until after the World Cup.
