Andy Robertson gives fitness update and sends message to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson has returned to international duty after recovering from illness.

And the Scotland captain revealed that his has held talks with Jurgen Klopp whilst away from Anfield with his national team.

The 28-year-old was forced to miss Thursday's 1-1 friendly draw with Poland but has now been passed available to face Austria in another friendly on Tuesday evening.

Robertson's return is a big boost for Tartan Army boss Steve Clarke, who now has a full squad to choose from and the former Chelsea player has indicated that he will make changes for the run-out, with Robertson likely to be involved.

Clarke said: "Looking at the bigger picture, in terms of fairness to the players in the squad more than anything, this is a game where I'll probably rotate a little bit more than I would for the second game in an international break."

Scotland's World Cup play-off qualifier against Ukraine was postponed last week due to the on-going Russian military invasion in their opponent's country.

The return of Robertson is good news for Liverpool, with the left-back likely to be a key player during the Reds' eight matches in April. And the Kop favourite has given assurances about his fitness to manager Klopp, who has been in contact with all of his players out on international duty in the past week.

Robertson told the Press Association: "The manager of Liverpool supports the boys who go away on international duty, he knows how important it is for all of us. He wants us to be sensible of course, but he knows how important it is to us, just like every Liverpool game, and we always make ourselves available for them. He will probably be happy that I have only played one game and not two!

"But I will go down to Liverpool fresh and good to go for the run-in and that is the most important thing for him and the most important thing for the club. Hopefully I will get another cap tomorrow and that is the most important thing for Scotland."
