Andy Robertson has been blasted by Scotland fans for "getting on it" just days before the country's "biggest game in years" against Ukraine.
Robertson, who is the current captain of the national team, is set to lead Scotland out at Hampden Park on Wednesday night for their crucial World Cup play-off against Ukraine. The winner of the clash will face Wales in Cardiff on Sunday for a place at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of this year.
However, just three days before the match, Robertson was filmed with alcohol in his hand during Liverpool's trophy parade on Sunday afternoon, reports The Daily Star.
The Reds paraded the League Cup and FA Cup through the city in an open top bus the day after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid in Paris.
Robertson was seen holding a beer as he danced to a DJ set by Calvin Harris, garnering an angry reaction from Scotland supporters.
One fan tweeted: “Big fan of Andy Robertson and everything he has done for Scotland. However this is not really acceptable for a Scotland captain 3 days before one of the biggest games in recent history. Better put in a big performance on Wednesday night.”
Meanwhile, another added: “Really isn’t a good look for Robertson. Huge game for Scotland coming up and he’s a few hours down the road getting on it.”
A third also wrote: “Andy Robertson is doing an open top bus parade for a Carabao Cup instead of joining the Scotland camp for a semi-final a few days away.”
Following the conclusion of the trophy parade, Robertson took to Twitter himself to declare he was ready to face Ukraine on Wednesday night, tweeting: “Can’t tell you how much that means to everyone that, best fans in the world. Now Scotland time.”
The Tartan Army are hoping to see their side qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1998, having ended their major tournament hiatus at last summer's Euros.
Robertson first captained his country in 2018 and has won 56 caps since making his debut in 2014, scoring three goals along the way.
