If anyone ever wants to validate the ability of tight end Darren Waller, the New York Giants’ newest weapon, all they have to do is ask coaches and players around the league who have had to face him during his career.
As a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, Waller went up against head coach Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs eight times over the years and caught 34 passes for 381 yards and two touchdowns.
Reid, speaking at the NFL league meeting in Arizona, is glad Waller is out of the AFC West.
“He’s a beast,” Reid told reporters during the AFC coaches’ breakfast inside the Arizona Biltmore hotel. “He’s tough. He’s big. He’s fast. He’s strong. Good hands. Smart.”
Reid knows a thing or two about talented, athletic tight ends.
“He’s one of the better tight ends,” Reid went on to say. “I really like his game. He’s just big.
“When he has children, I want to sign them. His wife is a good athlete, too.”
Reid, of course, was referring to Waller’s recent marriage to WNBA star Kelsey Plum, who Waller wed right before being traded to the Giants earlier this month.
