Andy Murray kicked off his anticipated final appearance at the BNP Paribas Open with a convincing win over David Goffin on Day 1 in Indian Wells, California. The three-time Grand Slam champion, currently ranked No. 61, displayed a solid performance, defeating Goffin 6-3, 6-2. Murray, who has been battling injuries, showcased his skill by not allowing Goffin any break points and securing crucial service games.

The match started evenly at 3-all, but Murray quickly gained momentum, winning the last three games of the opening set. The 36-year-old from Scotland, known for his resilience and determination, extended his perfect record against Goffin to 8-0, winning all 17 sets they have played against each other.

Murray, who has hinted at retirement before the end of the season, expressed his intentions to step away from professional tennis. Despite a challenging start to the year with a 2-6 record, Murray is determined to make the most of his remaining time on the court.

In other matches, rising star Brandon Nakashima secured a victory in his first tour-level match of the season, defeating Chris Eubanks. Notable players like Thanasi Kokkinakis and Christopher O’Connell also advanced in the men's draw, while women's winners included Angelique Kerber, Tatjana Maria, and Marie Bouzkova.

Defending champion Paula Badosa withdrew from the tournament due to a lingering back injury, a setback that came shortly after participating in an exhibition doubles match with her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Upcoming matches at the BNP Paribas Open include Rafael Nadal facing Milos Raonic in a highly anticipated showdown. Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, returns to the tour after recovering from a muscle tear near his surgically repaired hip earlier this year.
