Andy Murray's Wimbledon match gives BBC scheduling 'nightmare' as Sherwood fans complain

Viewers blamed Andy Murray for leaving the BBC to deal with a scheduling ‘nightmare’ as he opened his Wimbledon campaign with a win on Monday night, as Sherwood fans hit out at the lack of notice on it being moved.

Former champion and Olympic gold medal winner Murray was in action on Centre Court alongside James Duckworth, the 30-year-old Australian with a career seed high of 47th in the world. It was Duckworth who started stronger, leaving the home crowd feeling nervous as he took the first set 6-4.

With Andy one set down, it looked like the Wimbledon action on day one would continue well into the night, and with the BBC already moving The One Show and EastEnders onto BBC2 for the duration of the week, other programmers quickly followed suit as bosses made hasty changes to keep Murray in a primetime slot on BBC, as the roof was closed on Centre and Murray 2-1 up, with Tinie Tempah’s Extraordinary Potraits making the switch to the other side.

As outgoing BBC host Sue Barker addressed the fact that Murray was no stranger to “late night dramatic matches,” viewers were left wondering what the broadcaster would do with raved about new drama Sherwood.

The answer was to move that to BBC2 as well, with its opening titles rolling just as Murray and Duckworth returned form a short break and shouts of “let’s go Andy, let’s go” echoing around the court, bfor Murray eventually triumphed 3-1 after a 6-4 victory in the fourth set.

One viewer took to Twitter to remark: “Nightmare for the schedulers on BBC 1,” with plenty of Sherwood fans threatening to revolt should the drama have been scrapped.

One fan tweeted: “I've been waiting a week for #Sherwood and I won't take kindly to it being delayed or postponed. Move the tennis to BBC2,” with another, angry that there'd been no announcement about the show moving channels, reacting: “@bbc you should have said before not has it bloody starting only seen it on here due to others!!! Sherwood“

Another raged: " #Sherwood f**king disgrace BBC...how did we know to switch to BBC2 if we weren't watching BBC 1??? We've missed 15 minutes."
