Andy Murray route to Wimbledon final: How former champion can win third SW19 title

Champion: Andy Murray

Andy Murray is back at Wimbledon, though faces a tall order to win a third SW19 championship.

The former world no1 reached the third round last year but heads into this summer’s tournament having been nursing an abdominal injury suffered in the Stuttgart Open final defeat by Matteo Berrettini.

Australia's James Duckworth is first up, who Murray has beaten on both previous occasions, before a likely second-round test against no9 seed John Isner. No10 seed Jannik Sinner should reach the third round, though does face the unseeded three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka beforehand.

The second week could start with no5 seed Carlos Alcaraz before top seed Novak Djokovic squares up in the quarter-finals. Get past Djokovic and it could be an all-British semi-final against Cameron Norrie, who is seeded ninth, though no7 seed Hubert Hurkacz may have a thing or two to say about that.

Potential finalists for Murray would likely prove to be Rafael Nadal, on for a Calendar Slam, or Berrettini, who was runner-up at Wimbledon last year but has not lost on grass since.

Here is Andy Murray’s potential route to the Wimbledon final...

First round: Duckworth

Second round: Isner

Third round: Sinner

Fourth round: Alcaraz

Quarter-final: Djokovic

Semi-final: Norrie

Final: Berrettini
