A fundraiser for Andy Goram has raised almost £10,000 in just five days.
The charity Rangers Former Players Benevolent Club set up the online page to raise money for the ex-Scotland goalkeeper as he battles cancer.
The 58-year-old revealed to the Daily Record last Monday that specialists gave him a life expectancy of six months.
But we revealed today that he now only has weeks to live after his condition deteriorated.
The charity set up the JustGiving page on May 31 to give Goram and his family some help with the costs of treatment. It has so far raised £8,575.
A statement online read: “Andy Goram represented Oldham Athletic, Hibs, Rangers, Notts County, Sheffield Utd, Motherwell, Manchester Utd, Hamilton, Coventry, Oldham, Queen of the South and Elgin City.
“Andy played for Scotland 43 times and also represented Scotland at cricket from 1989 to 1991.
“Andy has given so much joy and happiness to so many people over the years and now needs our help and support. Andy has sadly been diagnosed with cancer and is facing a tough battle.
“If you are able to donate to help Andy and his family cover the costs of treatment he will gratefully appreciate your support.”
Rangers supports lined up to pay their respects on the fundraising page.
Graeme Morrison said: “My first real Rangers hero. Hopefully this small gesture helps in some way. Fight the good fight, sir.”
Bryan Forbes said: “Met Andy a few times and what a gentleman. Keep fighting.”
The Rangers Former Players Benevolent Club are a band of volunteers who provide former Gers players with financial and mediacal assistance in their hour of need.
Club legends like John Greig, Peter McCloy and Colin Stewart are among the trustees.
