ST JOHNSTONE are set to complete the signing of Aberdeen legend Andy Considine after his departure from Pittodrie this summer.
The 35-year-old exited the Dons at the end of the season following an 18-year stint with the club.
Considine had originally been offered a one-year deal with a pathway into coaching in Aberdeen’s youth academy but after further discussions with manager Jim Goodwin he bid farewell to the Granite City outfit.
Now St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson has snapped up Considine to add an experienced head to his youthful defensive ranks.
The Scotland international also had options of moving abroad with clubs in Australia interested, but instead, he’s opted to stay in the Scottish Premiership.
Considine made 571 appearances during his time at Aberdeen after coming through the youth set up and he quickly became a huge fans' favourite.
The centre-back’s arrival in Perth could indicate that Jamie McCart’s time at McDiarmid Park is up after being offered a new deal at the end of the campaign.
The double-cup winner, along with Zander Clark and Callum Hendry, have all been offered new contracts, but there is yet to be any further movement on agreements.
Saints will return to pre-season training on June 22 ahead of a busy schedule of league cup group stage fixtures.
Speaking last week on St Johnstone’s transfer business, boss Davidson said: “It’s very important we get our recruitment right this summer.
“We are looking for quality to bring in to make sure we have a better season next year.
“Bringing in that quality – players who are ready to go straight into the team – is what we’re looking for.
“Those few weeks after the season ends are always the same.
“It’s a frustrating time for a manager because you want to get cracking and get everyone signed up.
“But players have had a long, hard season and are off on holiday with their families and thinking about their options, so it’s difficult to get answers.”
