Andy Cohen Slammed For Dropping News Of David Lynch’s Death Onto ‘Severance’ Cast

Now here’s something that you can talk about with both your artsy friends and drama-loving mates.

During a press interview for Dan Erikson’s sci-fi television drama, Severance, Andy Cohen shocked the cast with the news of renowned film director David Lynch’s death.

Andy, reading from the paper in his hands, addressed the cast: “My producer just gave me the very sad news that the great David Lynch passed away today. I’m wondering if any of you worked with him or have any memories with him?”

Among those present included actress Patricia Arquette, who starred in Lynch’s 1997 cult-classic Lost Highway, and appeared visibly shaken and affected by the news.

“I was feeling like I needed to see David,” said Arquette.

“David was really incredible. There’s nobody like him.”

The internet was quick to react to Cohen’s social faux pas, with Reddit users describing his behaviour as ‘kinda shitty’.

‘Hi, your old friend who you were hoping to see soon died. Any reaction?’ wrote one netizen.

‘Patricia Arquette is so classy. Can’t say the same for Andy Cohen.’

Folks on X (formerly Twitter) also gave their thoughts on Cohen’s comments, and (surprise) they weren’t too fond of his blasé behaviour either.

‘Andy Cohen breaking the news of David Lynch’s death like that to Patricia Arquette is honestly so shocking in its tactlessness. What an asshole. He just wanted an exclusive ew ew.’ one X user wrote.

‘Andy cohen should not even be allowed to say Lynch’s name IMHO’ wrote another disgruntled Lynch fan.

David Lynch’s death was announced on January 16 by his family on his Facebook page.

Lynch was an acclaimed director known for his unique surreal style, creating iconic works including Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway and – arguably his most famous – the TV series Twin Peaks.
