Andy Carroll lifts lid on West Brom shower gel forfeit after Steve Bruce reunion

Andy Carroll is hoping a reunion with Steve Bruce will result in a Premier League return for the pair of them.

Carroll joined Championship side West Bromwich Albion last month, signing a contract until the end of the season.

Shortly after his arrival, Bruce was then brought in to replace the axed Valerien Ismael. It reunited the duo after their previous spell together at Newcastle.

Carroll, who has made three appearances for the Baggies, has now spoken about working with Bruce once again, and how the prospect of a free shower gel is spurring on the squad.

Will Bruce and Carroll be celebrating promotion at the end of this season? Let us know in the comments

"The training he (Bruce) puts on is sharp and intense and the lads are really enjoying it," Carroll told the Express and Star.

“There is a lot of small-sided games which the gaffer likes to do to allow competition among the lads.

“I’ve had managers in the past who haven’t liked playing five-v-five or six-v-six games. But the gaffer likes it and the boys do too.

"The day before a game, the worst player in those games has to bring the shower gels in. Thankfully, I haven’t been on the losing team yet.

“But Granty (Karlan Grant) has been a few times so hopefully he’ll bring some decent Molton Browns (shower gel) in for everyone!”

Bruce's first two games in the dugout have seen Albion fail to notch as their barren run without a goal stretched to four matches.

They've also drawn blanks in five of their last six and have lost ground on the top two of Fulham and Bournemouth.

Despite that, Carroll remains extremely positive that the results will come.

The 33-year-old insists nobody at the Hawthorns is panicking just yet.

"Wins are, of course, important but when you look at it the league is really tight," he added. “None of us are pressing any panic buttons at the minute.

"We just need that bit of luck to fall our way and I’m confident, once it does, the results will flow. “I’ve come here to score goals, create chances and win games in order to try and get us to the Premier League.

"We’ll get goals because I know and have seen we have a team full of them.”

Albion's latest game saw them draw 0-0 with Blackburn on Monday night. It represented a first point on the board for Bruce but he has admitted he may have to rejig his formation in a bid to address their issues in front of goal.

"We nearly got the break right at the end but quality in the final third was lacking," Bruce admitted, after the stalemate with Rovers.

"There was lots to be pleased about and it's good to at least get a point but we need to find a way of scoring goals and winning games.

"Maybe I need to take another look at playing 4-3-3. We certainly need someone getting closer to Andy Carroll. He worked his socks off, proved his fitness and looked a threat."
