Andrey Santos was spotted at the Signal Iduna Park ahead of Chelsea's clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16. The 18-year-old joined the Blues from Brazilian second division side Vasco da Gama in the summer for £18million but he's yet to be granted a work permit.
Foreign players require a certain number of governing body endorsement points to secure a permit which allows them to play in the Premier League. According to the Evening Standard, the west Londoners will re-apply for Santos' work permit upon his return to London as an Under-20 South American Championship winner.
He was a standout performer at the tournament, netting six goals in six games from defensive midfield. The report states that Santos missed out on a permit by just one point when he first joined Chelsea but, after leading his country to glory, the club are hopeful he will be successful at the second time of asking.

With Graham Potter eager to further bolster his midfield options, it's said that he's ready for the teenage sensation to be part of his first-team squad should the visa application succeed. And, with a decision seemingly just around the corner, Santos was spotted mingling with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali on the pitch at the Signal Iduna Park.
His appearance offers an interesting hint on his work permit status. But, for now, it remains to be seen whether he'll travel back to the United Kingdom with the Chelsea squad after the Dortmund clash.
Upon his unveiling in west London, Santos revealed his delight at joining. He told the club's official website: "It's a very big opportunity for me. This is a big club playing in big competitions like the Premier League so I am very excited. The players here are so good and I am very happy to be here."
Confirmation of Santos' work permit is highly anticipated among Chelsea fans. He delivered a passionate half-time speech which inspired Brazil to a huge win over rivals Argentina - after the video went viral on social media, Chelsea supporters compared his leadership qualities to that of club legend John Terry.
