Andrew Garfield announces he is taking a break from acting ‘to be ordinary for a while’

Andrew Garfield has decided to take a break from acting to “be ordinary for a while”.

Since 2020, the in-demand actor has starred in Mainstream, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Tick, Tick... Boom! and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The 38-year-old star also has a main role in miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven which will be available to stream in the UK via Disney+ later this year.

“I’m going to rest for a little bit. I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for a while,” Garfield explained to Variety.

Noting that he feels “privileged and lucky” to be part of the industry, he said he wants to go “be ordinary for a while”.

Already he has a number of awards to his name including Best Actor for a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes for Tick, Tick... Boom!

Garfield was also nominated for a SAG Award and an Oscar for the same movie.

Elsewhere in his life, it was reported Garfield recently split from girlfriend Alyssa Miller.

The actor and the American model, 32, only made their red carpet debut as a couple one month ago after first being linked late last year.

He has also spoken openly about the grief he still feels following his mother Lynn’s death from pancreatic cancer in 2019.

“With a loss like that, the world gets rearranged,” he reflected to Channel 4 during an interview earlier this year.

“It feels just like a precise agony and for a period of time I didn’t want to, and I wasn’t able to, do anything.

“I was kind of wasted and the world didn’t make sense, and it still doesn’t, because I miss her greatly, and I hope it never makes sense because I always want to miss her,” he concluded.
