Andreas Christensen, Reece James: Latest Chelsea injury news after Lille Champions League win

Chelsea are now through to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League following a 4-1 aggregate win against French club Lille on Wednesday evening.

The Blues went into the match in France with a 2-0 lead after a rather comfortable first leg at Stamford Bridge. Despite Burak Yilmaz's 38th minute opener from the penalty spot, Chelsea fought back after goals from Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta either side of half-time ensured a positive result in Lille.

However, it was not all good news for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea, with one key defender suffering an injury on the night. So with that being said, football.london takes a look at the latest Chelsea-related injury news.

Andreas Christensen

Christensen was taken off in the first-half for Chelsea in their win against Lille on Wednesday evening. The Dane went down with what looked like a muscular injury and was replaced by Trevoh Chalobah for the remainder of the match.

Tuchel was not asked about Christensen's injury in the post-match press conference, but the defender is now set to be assessed ahead of the Blues' FA Cup clash with Middlesbrough at the weekend. The Chelsea boss has plenty of other options in the centre-back department should the Dane not be fit.

Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi

James returned to the starting line-up following a lengthy lay-off in the 4-0 win over Burnley earlier this month. However, he picked up another injury during the triumph at Turf Moor and missed Sunday’s win over Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi has been struggling with an Achilles injury and faces a late fitness test. The Chelsea academy graduates did not travel to France with the rest of the squad for the second leg against Lille.

What Tuchel has said: "With Reece and Callum, we will try to have them join in training later but this will be a very tight race."

Expected return date: Unknown

Ben Chilwell

Chilwell’s return is expected to come some considerable time after the rest of his teammates. After suffering a cruciate ligament injury - and undergoing resultant reconstructive surgery - against Juventus, he is now ruled out until at least the end of the campaign.

Expected return date: 2022/23 season
