Andrea Radrizzani finds breakthrough in takeover talks while Leeds United suspense rumbles on

Andrea Radrizzani is one step closer to owning Sampdoria after a breakthrough in takeover talks with the current administration today, according to widespread reports in Italy. The Leeds United chairman and his business partner Matteo Manfredi have reportedly agreed on a financial package with existing owner Massimo Ferrero today.

News outlet Milano Finanza has published quotes from Ferrero tonight. "I give in and come away with broken bones, especially with regard to my Roman concordats because I'm left with nothing in hand, but I do it for the people and I'm happy to save jobs,” he said.

Genoa newspaper Il Secolo XIX reports: “It was a long, exhausting afternoon of negotiations in Milan. On one side Matteo Manfredi of Gestio Capital, on the other Gianluca Vidal and Massimo Ferrero, but a few minutes ago the good news finally arrived: the board of directors (president Lanna, vice president Romei and directors Panconi and Bosco) received the mandate to proceed with the capital increase which was unanimously approved at 9.20pm.

“The news the top management of the club were waiting at the Corte Lambruschini headquarters, where the Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting which had begun on Monday evening. In the morning Manfredi and Andrea Radrizzani, who did everything to close the operation, had sent a new proposal to Ferrero, of the modulations in favour of the former patron.

“It hadn't been enough to avoid a few hours of intense negotiations, but in the end, the parties came very close and the final agreement can be glimpsed. Now the way is paved for the capital increase and the beginning of the new era of Sampdoria, the one marked by Manfredi and Radrizzani, who have already been working on the future organisational chart for days.”

It remains to be seen what a Sampdoria takeover means for Radrizzani’s United future.
