Mistakes were made, Leeds United paid the price and Andrea Radrizzani has apologised in his first comments since agreeing to sell the club. Last week, the Whites announced 49ers Enterprises had struck a deal with Aser Ventures for the 56 per cent majority stake it owned.
Radrizzani had not said anything publicly about Leeds since that news broke last week. During a flurry of Twitter activity after positive developments with his Sampdoria project, the Italian replied to one well-wishing Leeds fan.
United’s outgoing chairman reflected on the golden years under Marcelo Bielsa until his sacking, at Radrizzani’s hands, in February 2022. Radrizzani also apologised for disappointing the fan base.
He commented on the future of the club and the good hands, he feels, it is now in with 49ers Enterprises calling the shots.

“We had three years of exciting football with Marcelo and historical moments for the club,” he said. “I am sorry it didn’t end as I wanted and I disappointed you all.
“We did mistakes and we paid a big price for it. I am sure the club is in good hands and has a bright future.”
While relegation stung United supporters, and the catalogue of poor decisions which led to that demise, the recent reports of Radrizzani’s Elland Road dealings angered fans too. The Athletic alleged Radrizzani had explored the possibility, in writing, of using United’s own stadium as collateral for a loan to then buy Sampdoria.
