Former striker Louis Saha is backing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana to be a roaring success at Manchester United, should the Old Trafford outfit get a deal in place to secure his signature.
United football director John Murtough, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, has been in Italy to hold talks with Inter officials to try and thrash out a deal. Onana is keen to seal a move to M16 and be reunited with former manager Erik ten Hag, whom he worked with at Ajax.
The Reds are desperate to source a new first-choice goalkeeper after David de Gea's exit was confirmed on Saturday and they have identified Onana as their top target to replace him. The Cameroonian, because of his ability in possession, is a certain upgrade on De Gea and will enable United to improve their overall game.
Ten Hag wants the Reds to be able to play the ball out from the back and dictate patterns of play, two attributes Onana will be able to assist with. And for Saha, who spent four years at Old Trafford, Onana ticks all the boxes for what United need in a new shot-stopper.

Asked if Onana would be a success, Saha, speaking to Betfred, said: "I think so. He's a top goalkeeper that's eager to improve and he's 27 years old, so he's got plenty of experience but isn't old at all for a goalkeeper.
"The manager is looking to play out from the back and see how he can disrupt the opposition. I believe Onana will be very important for United.
"Of course, all goalkeepers make mistakes that lead to goals but in Andre's case, the team is going to score more goals because of him.
"It takes time for players to adjust to a new league, but I'm certain he's going to be a perfect fit as he was able to play in a very strictly structured Inter Milan team and was still able to revolutionise the squad with his forward-thinking, so I have no doubt that he's going to do the same at Manchester United."
