Andre Onana speaks out on Harry Maguire after furious reaction to error in Manchester United defeat

Andre Onana has outlined the expectations he has in his Manchester United team-mates after numerous errors in their defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Multiple players were guilty of mishaps in the 3-2 defeat in Las Vegas that ended the Red Devils’ pre-season tour with back-to-back defeats.

One moment that caught United fans’ attention on Sunday night came when Maguire gave the ball away in his own half, resulting in Onana making a save and rushing off his line to berate the centre-back.

However, the new goalkeeper gave Maguire a glowing review in his post-match verdict.

He told MUTV: “I demand a lot of my team-mates because also they demand a lot, they trust in me.

“They play a lot of balls back to me, so I have to give them confidence and I want my players to give them to me to give me confidence.

“I demand [from] them a lot and I will demand from them a lot because they are great players. Now, for me, it's a big honour to play with these defenders.

“With [Lisandro] Martinez, Harry they are doing great things. They are important players for the club. I'm very happy to be part of this team and playing with them is something great.”

United boss Erik ten Hag stated that his side failed to meet their own expectations in the friendly, which saw Donyell Malen score twice in two minutes to turn the game around before a late Youssoufa Moukouko winner courtesy of another mistake.

He said: “All of a sudden they gave two goals away and they really were giveaways. So that was already annoying but the last half an hour was bad, was a poor performance.

“[We] didn’t follow the rules at all, not in pressing, not in building up and not in attacking, so there were 11 individuals finally on the pitch and that wasn’t good at all.”
