Andhra Pradesh: TDP leaders up in arms over power tariff hike

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) organised protests across Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts over the hike in power tariff, claiming that it would result in a heavy financial burden on people of the State.

Former Minister for Medical and Health Kondru Murali Mohan alleged that while on one hand the YSRCP government was claiming that it was implementing welfare schemes effectively, on the other hand it was imposing heavy taxes on people.

Addressing a press conference in Rajam, Mr. Murali Mohan said that the Chandrababu Naidu government had effectively managed the power sector without giving any scope for a hike in tariff.

“Power cuts have become the order of the day. Industries will face a slump due to the exorbitant tariff. Many workers will lose their jobs if industries become sick,” he said. Former MLA of Srikakuam Gunda Lakshmi Devi and TDP Srikakulam city president Madarapu Venkatesh said that people were blaming themselves for voting the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to power in the 2019 elections.

Speaking to reporters in Parvatipuram, former MLC Dwarapureddy Jagadish said that people would teach a lesson to the YSRCP in the 2024 elections . “The government has failed on all fronts. Now, it has enhanced power tariff and has put a heavy burden on all sections of society. People will think twice before even using ceiling fans for a prolonged period of time during the summer,” he said.
