AMARAVATI: The state government has roped in International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) to implement Jagananna Gorumudda (mid-day meal) programme in pre-primary and high schools.
Iskcon is setting up ultra-modern kitchens under Akshaya Patra foundation across the state to implement the scheme. Iskcon has agreed to serve egg to children and follow the menu prescribed by the state government.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will inaugurate the ultra-modern kitchen constructed by Iskcon at Atmakur village near Mangalagiri on Friday.
Housing minister Cherukuvada Sri Ranganatha Raju along with legislators Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, Lella Appireddy, Talasila Raghuram and M Hanumtha Rao inspected the kitchen on Wednesday. Speaking to the media, Ranganatha Raju said that the chief minister is very particular about providing nutritious and hygienic food to children as part of the Jagananna Gorumudda. He said that the state and the Centre were sharing the burden of implementation of the mid-day meal scheme. He, however, said that taking the support of Iskcon would help them provide best quality food to the children as they would be setting up centralized kitchens to supply food to the pre-primary and high schools.
