Andhra Pradesh: Police arrest six in murder case of 54-year-old woman at Kuppam

TIRUPATI: Police arrested six persons in connection with the murder of a 54-year-old single woman reported at Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh about ten days ago.

Briefing reporters at Chittoor on Friday, SP Y Rishanth Reddy recalled that some miscreants attacked a lonely woman Suryakantham at her house at Kuppam and decamped with her jewellery and cash after killing her on 17th October.

Police investigation revealed that the key accused in the case identified as K Poornachand (23) and his father Kamappa borrowed money for interest from Suryakantham's husband sometime ago. They recently repaid the money to Suryakantham by selling their property.

Poornachand who was addicted to alcohol and various vices plotted to kill Suryakantham as she was living alone after her husband passed away recently.

As Suryakantham was a money lender, Poornachand thought she would have lots of cash and gold at her home.

He hatched a plan with his other friends identified as R Sampath (23), R Murali (24), S Naveen Kumar (24), S Tirupati (25) and M Dinesh (23) and as per their plan the six members group attacked Suryakantham at her house when she was alone on 17th October.

The accused used a wet cloth to squeeze the victim's neck and choked her to death. Later they removed all the gold jewellery she was wearing and took out some more jewels from almirah weighing approximately 110 grams. The gang also stole away Rs.2.25 lakh cash from the house after committing the murder.

Police investigations revealed that Poornachand and his accomplices in the crime also stole away a bike near Gudupalli before heading to Suryakantham's house.

Chittoor SP said that the special teams formed to probe the case, arrested the accused near the government hospital at Kuppam.

Rishanth Reddy appreciated the efforts of Kuppam urban CI T Sridhar and his team in solving the murder case within 10 days after the offence was committed.
