Andhra Pradesh: National flags not being imported from China, clarifies OSD to Kishan Reddy

Goli Venkat, Officer on Special Duty to Union Minister for Tourism Culture and Development of North Eastern Region G. Kishan Reddy, has stated that minister did not say that flags were being imported from China.

In response to a news report published in these columns on August 1, the OSD stated in a letter that he minister clarified through a “non-verbal gesture” that flags are not being imported from China but are being made in the villages by Self Help Groups (SHGs). Further, when asked about the impact on Khadi industries, the Minister further stated that the Government has given orders to various Khadi industries but the production capacity of the Khadi industries may not be able to meet the huge additional demand of such a large number of Khadi Flags in such a short period of time. Hence the Government of India has allowed the usage of other material by altering the Flag Code.”

“At no point of time does the Hon’ble Minister state or imply that our national flags are being imported from China,” he said.
