A festive atmosphere prevailed in Manyam-Parvatipuram on Monday, with people celebrating the formation of the new district at the new Collector’s office here on Monday.
Public representatives and officials shared their joy and thanked Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for creating a new district for Parvatipuram region. The new district was formed by merging Salur, Parvatipuram and Kurupam Assembly constituencies of Vizianagaram and Palakonda constituency of Srikakulam district. There are three major towns including Salur, Parvatipuram and Palakonda and 15 mandals in the new district. The district has a population of 9.25 lakh, of which 2.60 lakh are tribals. It is one of the reasons for the government to name the district as Manyam, which is a Telugu word referring to a tribal region.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Tribal Welfare Pamula Pushpa Srivani formally inaugurated the new Collector’s office. She congratulated new Collector Nishant Kumar, Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu and Joint Collector O. Anand who assumed charge amidst cheers.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Srivani said that the formation of the Manyam-Parvatipuram district would help people from remote areas have better access to government offices, including the Collectorate, as Parvatipuram town was equidistant from all parts of the distric.t.
Andhra Pradesh Legilsative Council Member Palavalasa Vikrant, Parvatipuram MLA Alajangi Joga Rao, Bobbili legislator Sambangi Venkata China Appala Naidu, Salur MLA Rajanna Dora, Palakonda MLA Viswasaraya Kalavati, and Parvatipuram municipal chairperson Bonu Gowri were present at the inaugural function.
