Telugu Desam Party(TDP) Parliament district president Palla Srinivasa Rao has alleged that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders are not committed to save the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP) from privatisation. This is evident from their lack of participation in the agitation demanding continuation of VSP in the public sector, he said.
Addressing a media conference here on Sunday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy lead an all-party delegation to the Prime Minister and Steel Minister, who were scheduled to participate in the Presidential Fleet Review-2022 and Milan-2022, which would be held in the city from February 21.
The relay hunger fast, being organised under the aegis of Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Committee (VUPPC), has completed one year recently. Though the YSRCP leaders have announced their support to the agitation, they had not joined the agitation directly, he said. The TDP leader alleged that trade union leaders were being threatened by the YSRCP.
He recalled that Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan had also demanded that the Chief Minister lead an all party delegation to the Prime Minister against ‘strategic sale of VSP’. Alleging that the YSRCP leaders have ego in leading the all-party delegation, he said that the Chief Minister should at least lead an all-trade union team to the Prime Minister on the issue.
Replying to a query, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that no BJP leader was elected from Visakhapatnam region and the people gave the mandate to the YSRCP and hence the responsibility of saving the VSP lay with the latter.
