Srikakulam Collector Shrieksh B. Lathkar and his Vizianagaram counterpart A. Suryakumari on Tuesday made arrangements for sending the bodies of the people, who were run over by Bhubaneswar–CST Mumbai Konark Express near Batuva village in Srikakualm district, to their native places in West Bengal and Assam.
The bodies were sent after the post-mortem was performed at the Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences of Nellimarla in Vizianagaram district.
Mr. Shrikesh said the identities of four of the five deceased had been confirmed from the Aadhaar cards and other documents they were carrying. The deceased have been identified as Ujul Basumatary and Banisar Basumatary from Kokrajhar district of Assam, Rashidul Islam (28) from Miran of Assam, Rentu Sekh (25) from Para Khayertala in Murshidabad district in West Bengal.
The identity of one more deceased could not be established due lack of identity proof. The investigation is in progress, said a statement issued by A.K. Tripathi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR).
Jitu Nayak (26) from Jamali of Gujurala in Ganjam district of Odisha received serious injuries. He was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Srikakulam district. Mr. Shrikesh visited the RIMS and enquired about the condition of the patient. Later, he was shifted to the King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam.
Five passengers were run over by Konark Express near Batuva village of G. Sigadam mandal in Srikakulam district on Monday night. They got down from the Coimbatore-Silchar Express when the train was stopped due to a technical glitch. They failed to observe the Konark Express which was coming in the adjacent track and got run over.
