Even as the inauguration of Sri Sathya Sai District was in progress here, leaders of an all-party committee opposing Puttaparthi as the new district headquarters and fans of Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna clashed at the Ambedkar Statue in Hindupur town on Monday morning.
A leader of Akhilapaksha Committee named Chalapathi, at the beginning of the ‘Black Flags’ demonstration, criticised Mr. Balakrishna, MLC Iqbal Ahmed and Hindupur MP Gorantla Madhav for failing to impress upon the State government to declare Hindupur as the new district headquarters.
This enraged the actor-turned-politician’s fans who came to blows with the Akhilapaksha Committee leaders. Police personnel deployed at the spot intervened and brought the situation under control.
