There’s nothing I love more on God’s green earth than commitment to a bit. A joke. A silly. A ruse, even. It fills my cup and it brings me joy. Today, I’d like to introduce you to a podcast that embodies the spirit of true, unadulterated commitment to a bit — Talking Talk Tuah.
Confused? Let me explain.
Remember that girl who went viral for saying “hawk tuah, spit on that thang” in a TikTok street interview? If you need a little reminder, I’ve popped it below.
The Hawk Tuah girl’s real name is Haliey Welch and back in September, she started a podcast called Talk Tuah With Hailey Welch.
It was an ambitious move by the viral star. Although she was immediately loved by the masses (predominantly white Americans) after her clip went gangbusters, creating a podcast is tricky territory after you’ve gained attention for saying something funny one time. Regardless, girlie pop was a hustler and I would’ve 100 per cent used my 15 minutes of fame to shoot my shot if I were in her shoes.
Backed by Jake Paul‘s media company Betr, Hailey endeavoured to prove that she was more than just a sound bite by promising to have quality interviews with celebrities from all walks of life on the podcast. So far, the podcast has had 11 episodes featuring the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Jake Paul and Holly Madison to name a few.
However, shortly after she launched the podcast, another podcast emerged. Called Talking Talk Tuah, hosts Cam George and Peter Ditzler describe it as “the only companion podcast to Talk Tuah with Hailey Welch”. Did we need a companion podcast? Absolutely not. And yet, it’s perfect in every way.
The duo previously hosted a similar companion podcast about Mr Beast, but in the wake of his alleged misconduct, decided to pivot to “an up-and-coming podcaster who has, in just a few short weeks, stolen our hearts with her wit and bravado”: Miss Haliey Welsh.
Each week, Cam and Peter break down everything that happens on Talk Tuah. From Haliey’s inside jokes, dissecting the topics discussed on Talk Tuah and even the body language between the guests on the show, the fellas are all over it.
“We’re kinda your guys on the inside,” Cam explains in episode one.
“Anything that happens on the show, you’re going to hear it here second because first you’re going to hear it on Talk Tuah and we’re going to be dissecting it second.”
I mean, just have a look at this mastery down below.
This is what I’m talking about. This is art. This is comedy.
It seems like other people agree with me, too. The Talking Talk Tuah podcast has amassed more than 39k followers on Instagram and 26.8k followers on TikTok. Their cutdowns of the full episodes are getting hundreds of thousands of views, proving that they’re giving us the content we didn’t know we needed.
I’ll be honest with you, it’s unlikely I ever would have listened to Hailey’s podcast. But Peter and Cam have inspired me to do so by proxy. On ya, fellas, love your work!!!
