SCOTTISH Labour leader Anas Sarwar has been confirmed as a speaker at a Unionist groups’ Burns Night event.
Scotland in Union is charging £60 per ticket to attend the event on January 26 in Glasgow.
The Scottish Labour leader is the first of the speakers to be confirmed for the night, with others and live entertainment promised on the event page.
In an email announcing his booking, Scotland in Union wrote: “We are very happy to announce Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar MSP as a speaker at our Burns Night 2023 celebrations.
“Anas has served as both an MP and an MSP, leading Labour's campaign in the 2014 referendum and has now led the Scottish Labour Party for the past two years.”
The event will be held at Citation in Glasgow’s Merchant City.
The event description on the website Eventbrite states: “This fun, informal and traditional Burns Night will include a three course meal and a dram of whisky to toast the haggis. We will have the traditional speeches, and performances, and also a raffle (included in your ticket price).”
It goes on: “Dress code is smart (but not black tie); tartan very welcome but not necessary.
“Tickets are £60 per person (plus Eventbrite fee), or you can book a table of ten for £575.”
Scotland in Union is run by Pamela Nash, a former Labour MP for Airdrie and Shotts who lost her seat to the SNP’s Neil Gray in the 2015 General Election.
Scottish Labour said Sarwar would not be taking a fee for his appearance.
