Anand Mahindra appreciates Mumbai Police for solving theft of Brazilian student's valuables

MUMBAI: Industrialist Anand Mahindra on Saturday tweeted a post appreciating the Mumbai Police for their swift detection in a case of a foreign student's stolen valuables.

Brazilian student Marina Leao had complained to the Dindoshi police that an auto driver had stolen her bag with iPad, passport, visa and cash while ferrying her. The police went through footage from 40 cameras and tracked down the accused within two days.

"I can just imagine the relief for this young woman. I've had my belongings stolen while travelling overseas as a student and it's a harrowing experience. Stories like this, when shared globally, will make us a more attractive destination for travellers. Bravo, Mumbai Police," Mahindra tweeted.

Leao, 23, was travelling from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) to Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research at Goregaon (E) in an auto on July 11 when the theft occurred. On July 13, she reported the theft to the Dindoshi police station. After scanning footage from 40 cameras, police could zero in on the registration number of the auto. The driver, Kanhaiyalal Pal, was traced to Kalina from where he was arrested on Friday. The iPad, passport, visa and cash were recovered from him.

BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar felicitated the investigators and zonal DCP on Saturday.
