Analyzing final Vikings injury report for Week 16 vs. Lions

The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon for the second-annual winter whiteout.

Ahead of the game, the Vikings released their final injury report on Friday. Here is everything you need to know.

Thursday injury report

Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports
  • RB Alexander Mattison (ankle): Did not practice
  • CB Byron Murphy Jr. (knee): Did not practice
  • WR Jalen Nailor (concussion): Did not practice
  • RT Brian O’Neill (ankle): Did not practice
  • NT Harrison Phillips (back): Did not practice
  • OLB Danielle Hunter (illness): Limited
  • DE Jonathan Bullard (ankle): Limited

Out

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports
  • CB Byron Murphy Jr. (knee)
  • WR Jalen Nailor (concussion)

Nailor didn’t clear concussion protocol and will miss his second consecutive game on Sunday. Murphy will miss his first game in a Vikings uniform with a knee injury. He didn’t practice all week.

Doubtful

Nobody is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Lions.

Questionable

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports
  • DE Jonathan Bullard (ankle)
  • NT Harrison Phillips (back)
  • ILB Jordan Hicks (shin)
  • ILB Ivan Pace Jr. (shoulder)
  • RB Alexander Mattison (ankle)
  • RT Brian O’Neill (ankle)

The only major surprise on here Pace who was added on Friday with a shoulder injury. There is still hope that he can go, same with the rest of the players on the list, all of whom were practicing to some extent on Friday.

Removed from injury report

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports
  • OLB Danielle Hunter (illness)
  • NT Sheldon Day (ankle)

The Vikings will need Hunter to generate pressure on Jared Goff this Sunday. Day will also be needed with the Vikings potentially having both Bullard and Phillips out with injuries.

Injured reserve

  • WR Malik Knowles: The Vikings waived Knowles with an injury and he reverted back to injured reserve after clearing waivers. He is out for the season.
  • LT Oli Udoh: He tore his quadriceps tendon against the Philadelphia Eagles and is out for the season.
  • OLB Marcus Davenport: After injuring his right ankle before week one, Davenport suffered a high ankle sprain against the Chicago Bears and recently had tightrope surgery on it.
  • DE James Lynch: Lynch tore his ACL during the Vikings night practice on August 3rd.
  • ILB William Kwenkeu: He was placed on injured reserve after clearing waivers when the Vikings waived him with an injury designation.
  • QB Kirk Cousins: He ruptured his right Achilles tendon against the Green Bay Packers in week eight.
  • RB Cam Akers: He ruptured his Achilles tendon against the Atlanta Falcons in week nine.
  • ILB Jordan Hicks: He suffered a leg injury that developed compartment syndrome against the New Orleans Saints in week 10.
