Alexis Diaz got the save on Wednesday night, his 19th of the season, with the Cincinnati Reds beating the New York Yankees 3-2.
But the closer’s reaction to a pitch called inside got him mocked by the umpire, who didn’t toss him out for questioning balls and strikes.
Diaz threw a pitch that was clearly inside, but the hurler raised his arms to question the call. And it was home plate ump Jim Wolf who caught that, raised his arms like Diaz did and pointed emphatically to indicate that the pitch was definitely inside.
It’s good that this was a case where the ump got this one right! We’ve seen too many of the opposite, haven’t we?
