An Uber Driver’s List Of Strict Rules For Riders Has Sent Reddit Into A Tizzy

Reddit has been sent into a tizzy after a user posted an oddly specific, full-caps rules list from a recent Uber ride.

As a certified passenger princess, you rarely come across an Uber that has a list of requirements for riders. Now that I think of it, the only time I’ve ever received something from the driver it would either be a beautiful life story or a cheeky little mentos.

But for Redditor u/LieutenantChonkster, they got a full-on list jam-packed with strict AF rules for riders who jump in their car.

“Greetings I welcome you as my passenger. Here are [the] care etiquette rules I require to ensure a smooth ride for us,” the list began.

Skimming through the list, written in all caps, there are definitely valid ones that stick out such as “Pets are always welcome. They must remain either in your lap or on the floor at all times to avoid pet hair for the next passenger. Do your best to clean up after your pets to avoid cleanup fees,” and “Keep children safely seated at all times, no kicking seats or playing with door/windows to avoid tickets.”

However, it was rules like, “I will not turn my radio off or down to inaudibility for your personal or business calls. I do not want your corporate meetings or personal business dealings. Have them before entering or once exiting my car, No exceptions. Do not ask me to,” and, “Wearing a seatbelt is up to you. You could potentially be ticketed, however,” that had netizens turning their heads.

Many netizens bagged on the Uber driver’s rules, with many guessing that the driver had only one to two stars on the app, whilst a majority objected to the radio rule.

“This driver’s feelings about people needing to take cars really don’t align with taking a job driving people around,” one person wrote.

“I’m OK with all of this except the business calls and turning down the music. You’re providing a service to someone paying you. You need to cater to any reasonable needs. You’re not my friend giving me a ride, you’re the person providing a service I paid for,” another Redditor commented.

“The only one I have an issue with is him not turning down his music. I mean, it might be okay, but come on, man, I had a long night and I hate the fucking Eagles, man,” wrote a third.

One person said all the rules were valid. However, the driver’s decision to use all caps as well as the tone of the list was what put them off.

“The only unreasonable thing is the driver’s refusal to turn his music down or off. Everything else is just common courtesy. Keep your pets/kids safe in their seats, don’t have your speakerphone on, don’t make a mess or leave smells in the car by eating/smoking/vaping. Reasonable,” they wrote.

“That said, the all-caps and preachy tone are incredibly off-putting.”

Look, as someone who’s at an age where I should have a license, I’m not going to complain about someone’s rules if I’m grabbing a ride off them.

But if they’re blasting the Joe Rogan Experience in the car, best believe I’m hopping out and jumping on a whole new rideshare app.
