An Irish Goodbye: Star of Oscar-nominated short James Martin 'brings house down' with harmonica solo in LA

The star of the BAFTA-winning Northern Irish short film An Irish Goodbye has been wowing crowds in Los Angeles with his musical talent.

James Martin, who plays Lorcan in the acclaimed short, is currently in the States ahead of this year's Oscars where the film has been nominated for 'Best Live Action Short'.

Written and directed by East Belfast filmmaker Ross White and his creative partner Tom Berkeley, An Irish Goodbye is set against the backdrop of a working farm in rural Northern Ireland and follows the reunion of estranged brothers Turlough (Seamus O’Hara) and Lorcan after the untimely death of their mother.

James and the team have jetted off to LA ahead of the ceremony on Sunday, March 12 - which also happens to be his 31st birthday.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, the An Irish Goodbye team shared a clip highlighting that the actor is a man of many talents as he plays the harmonica to a busy crowd in an Irish bar.

The Belfast man played a rendition of Dirty Old Town at O'Brien's Irish Pub in LA with the crowd going wild for his skills.

On Twitter, the official An Irish Goodbye account said: "Incredible scenes!!

"Watch our main man James Martin bring the house down at O'Briens Irish Pub in Los Angeles!

"The Irish have ARRIVED".

An Irish Goodbye is the only film from the UK and Ireland to be nominated in the 'Best Live Action Short' category at this year's Academy Awards and many bookmakers have placed it at the front of the race.

The short film is available now on BBC iPlayer and will be broadcast on BBC One NI on Sunday 12 March at 10.30pm, just ahead of the 95 th Academy Awards, where is it nominated in the Best Short Film category.

An Irish Goodbye will also be broadcast on BBC One on Monday, March 13 at 10.40pm (and 11.40pm in Northern Ireland).
