An invitation from our editor to see Behind the Headlines...

It’s been quite a few weeks for Team National.

We were running around the country for what felt like months on end following the SNP leadership contenders on the campaign trail, organising our hustings with the SNP Trade Union Group, attending Scotland’s first-ever economics festival and bringing you all our usual great content in amongst it all.

Even though we’re one of the UK’s most engaging news brands on social media with millions of page views every month, we have quite a small team compared to the big Unionist media organisations in Scotland.

So when events kick off like they have lately, we have to go above and beyond to bring you the coverage you know and love.

Plus, as Scotland’s only pro-independence daily title, we really need to work hard to draw attention to fact check and myth-bust the claims from those major news brands.

We’re pretty outnumbered here…

That feeling of isolation in Scotland’s media landscape has been heightened lately, as legacy media brands jump on the opportunity to exploit the SNP’s internal drama and, in the process, stomp on the independence movement.

Yes, like in many parties and political movements, there are differences of opinion within the SNP and among independence supporters.

No, that does not mean the Yes movement is finished.

Getting that message out there has been challenging as much of Scotland’s media screams about civil wars and rebellions.

It seemed like a good time to launch a newsletter bringing you information from inside the newsroom, taking you behind the headlines and providing insight into how editorial decisions are made.

I’ll be writing directly to you once a week with all the latest, and I hope you find it interesting.
